The End of DRAMAtical Murder.

Well, eleven more episodes after seeing that first episode. What are my thoughts about this adaptation of a BL visual novel? (Spoiler alert: After this post, I'm going to start a Let's Play of the original visual novel) Speaking of which, I'll be talking about the anime adaptation of DRAMAtical Murder as a whole, and also a bit about the original visual novel as a result so...

SPOILER ALERT! Don't click past the jump break if you haven't seen the anime and/or don't want to be spoiled about the visual novel as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

So, there were several mysteries going on; that we now have answers to.

  • What's the deal with that odd "Silent Oath" game? It was a series of messages from Sei to his twin brother, Aoba, which Toue took advantage of...
  • Is there a sinister motive behind Platinum Jail (or, as I'll end up calling it in the the Let's Play "The Gilded Cage")? Most definitely, of the "world domination via brainwashing" variety.
  • Aoba's past? Once upon a time, he played Rhyme. But he ended up committing a crime, destruction of the mind; so Virus and Trip sealed his memories, put them in a bind. Not to mention that Aoba and Sei are Designer Baby brothers twin, also I was right about this fan theory I had about Aoba's hair... for the win! (I see what you did there, this whole description... "Rhymed". *ba-dun-tiss*)
Not to mention the whole Freudian psychology angle here. In the last episode, it was mentioned that Aoba has three components to him. Desire, reason, and restraint... Kind of sounds like the concept of the Id, the Ego, and the Super-Ego to me. More about this in a future Overthinking things post. Also, actually hearing that Jellyfish lullaby Clear sang... Anyway, unlike the game; in which there's only one route you can take to help one person and everyone else has to deal with their problems for the rest of their lives... (Which won't be very long for Mink, since I've heard about implications that he'd commit suicide if you don't pick his route)...

EVERYONE GETS A HAPPY ENDING! Well for the love interests anyway. Koujaku doesn't give in to the intent behind his tattoos, Noiz can feel pain for once and cleans up his act, Clear lives a relatively normal life, Mink lives to return to his homeland, and (best of all) Ren also lives (in Sei's body, but still...) In the anime it's implied that Toue "summons his persona"... (Shimohi! Not funny!) ...but he had that coming, plus, I didn't really count him anyway. Point is... This is the...

BEST ENDING EVER! And, yes, I plan on doing a Let's Play of the original visual novel as well. That's how much I liked this anime!
