The End of Hunter X Hunter.

"Enjoy all the little detours." Yeah, but in my case this was a HUGE detour in my life (as far as watching anime goes) but... Yeah, I enjoyed every minute of it. More about my thoughts about this version of the Hunter X Hunter anime adaptation (and, of course, spoilers) at the other side of this jump break...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only vaguely recall watching a few (or even just one) episodes of the first anime adaptation of Hunter X Hunter, but this time I got to see Gon's journey to meet his father (Ging).... (In other words, a hunter hunting for a hunter or a "Hunter Hunter". I know, but puns are awesome) ...from beginning to end. And, oh boy, the "detours" (or rather "arcs") seen along the way. Even before the exam itself he meets a jerk with a heart of gold aiming for a hunter license as a step to becoming a doctor (Leorio) and the last of his tribe looking to avenge the deaths of his fellows (Kurapika). Once he gets to the hunter exam in the first place, he then meets a child (ex) assassin (Killua)... Who then becomes his very best friend! Then after the exam...

They go participate in a battle tournament set in a tall tower, where they learn how to use their auras with a series of techniques collectively known as "Nen". Then they visit Killua's family home while Kurapika also learned how to use Nen and sets his plan into motion to kill the group of ruthless mercenaries that (as I've typed about before) killed the rest of his tribe (The Phantom Troupe).

After that, Gon and Killua get a chance to play an interesting "video game" that turns out to actually transport to an actual place in the world... Called "GREED Island". Which leads into having to deal with a humanity-threatening danger in the form of a strange kind of "ant" that (quite literally) becomes what it eats (sort of, they're called "Chimera ants" for a reason). A lot of people get involved and some of them die (or get turned into Chimera ants), including a friend of Ging's (Kite). If you're wondering, he was killed but then reborn as a chimera ant.

Then, as part of the aftermath of that last event, an election is held to determine who's going to be running the hunter association next (yeah, the chairman of the Hunter Association was among the dead, but it's a secret to everyone). Wow, who knew politics could actually be interesting? But while that's going on, the child (ex) assassin's doing his best to help Gon recover from the terrible price he had to pay to defeat one particular chimera ant (Neferpitou) which ends up influencing the aforementioned election (well, how about that...). And it's only after Gon recovers and the election's just about to be done that... GON FINALLY MEETS GING! (Told you there would be spoilers.) And then, everyone goes their own separate ways; including Gon meeting up with Ging at the top of the World Tree where we hear that there's a lot more to this world than what we know...

So, pretty much, the adventure continues. And for a series as awesome as this is, that's the best possible ending there could ever be.
