To quote CuteFuzzyWeasel, "Time to feed the trolls..."
The following is a response to a troll post on Google+ so long that I need to use a blog post to contain not just my own text, but all the links that are going to be necessary to back it up. So, the actual meat of the post after the jump cut...
*sigh* JimFear138 obviously missed the portion of the video that claimed that there's no domestic violence in gay male relationships but there are in heterosexual relationships (coming from women) and even MORE from lesbian relationships.
In that first post, I said I unsubscribed because *the video itself* was misogynistic (if that didn't come across, I apologise). But your own comment about male superiority following that ("men are stronger...") informed me that you hold these views as well, meaning I made the right choice to unsubscribe from your channel.
I didn't say that *any* response would count as trolling. That's putting words in my mouth (troll evidence #1). And the "fictional character" bit is because trolls shouldn't require actual work to deal with. Also, I never made any claim about who's more mature or not. That's more words you've put in my mouth.
Again, I'm not disagreeing with the fact that women commit violent acts. My problem is the disregard to the fact that men commit violent acts because (guess what) both men and women are PEOPLE! *sigh* Do I really have to directly quote his precious mirrored video (which he seems to have a desperate need to defend) to show just how misogynistic it is?
Also, "I know and know of..." [sarcasm] Nice punctuation there. [/sarcasm]
Again with putting words in my mouth, I'm not saying that what happened to Christina Sommers was the right thing to do. *There's just as much (if not a worse) problem of misogyny in the MRM*.
Also, he states that feminists in general are not the problem just the ones in charge, but you start off that statement pretty much saying exactly that. Flip-flop much?
Oh, by the way, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic not only counts as a Feminist Fantasy on TVTropes.org but Lauren Faust herself is a feminist ("I have been a lifelong feminist...") and last I checked she's not misandrist in the slightest.
Oh yeah, the "wag gap" actually exists. Check the following pdf (page 13). There's also a link to an article that supposedly "proves" it's a myth, but I can't read it because it seems to require logging in first. And I would not be surprised if that's because it's behind a pay wall.
Let's see, the aforementioned shooter hating those women for not dating him but also hating the men... Because the aforementioned women where choosing to date them instead of him? Still sounds very much misogynistic to me (It seems that those men wouldn't have been targeted if they were not with the women being targeted).
Also, here's some examples of everyday sexism here, here, and here.
No, women are not the dominant sex in the world. Otherwise something like this would've never happened. Also, the woman who wrote this open letter to her male friends certainly does NOT feel "...blessed to have a vagina." as he put it.
No, #yesallwomen hashtag is about highlighting the problems women face *in response* to #notallmen as in "Yes, all women have faced sexual harassment at least once in their life". JimFear says that men are being sexually harassed as well. Okay, let's hear men tell their stories about being the target of sexual harassment. Since JimFear138 isn't willing to show this sort of evidence, I guess that means I have to look for it myself...
And this is what I've found... (1), (2), (3).
Speaking of which, there's a reason why women aren't going into traditionally male-dominated jobs (and those who are end up leaving) is because of sexual harassment in the workplace... Like this. There's also articles about this such as this and this.
If JimFear138 is going to claim to make factual arguments then, like Wikipedia, citation needed is. And not just from Mens Rights Movement web pages and the like. Speaking of which... ("The men's rights movement's beliefs and activities have been criticized by scholars, the Southern Poverty Law Center and commentators, and sectors of the movement have been described as misogynist.") "The movement is divided in to two camps: one camp believes that men and women are equally harmed by sexism..." That, I can believe. Because both men and women are harmed by sexism! Women being told not to play certain rough sports and men being told not to perform ballet are both examples of sexism. "...and the other camp believes that
female privilege and male degradation are systemic in society." This, is the camp the likes of JimFear138 are part of.
Finally; the reason I initially stated that a fictional character of mine, Akurei... (Hello stupid humans on the Internet!) ...would be insulting him *if* he trolled that post is because trolls don't listen to reason, so any sort of intelligent discussion would be lost on them and therefore a waste of time.
(There are rules of the Internet that cover this. Numbers 7, 12, 13, 14, and 15. "No matter how much you love debating, keep in mind that no one
on the internet debates. Instead they mock your intelligence as well as
your parents" let's see does "You're so full of shit that your eyes are turning brown..." sound familiar? "Anything you say can and will be used against you", "Anything you say can and will be turned into something else", "Do not argue with trolls - it means they win" and Shimohi's epically failing to follow that one, "the harder you try, the harder you will fail." hence the "lack of mental effort". And, of course... Rule number 16, "If you fail in epic proportions, it may just become a winning failure.") Just in case this isn't clear, the text in parenthesise with the red highlight is the aforementioned character, Akurei speaking. (I mean, look at this dude! He must think he's Dio Brando or something! *lol* But seriously, "You should probably just fold.") [simultaneous] "When the only winning move is not to play!" ("When the only winning move is not to play!") [/simultaneous] (*shrug* "And yet you keep on trying...") *facepalm* "...mindlessly replying..." ("You've been trolled, you've been trolled, have a nice day!")
And I will, once I can finally give up on ever seeing him actually do any work to decrease world suck... (Hi Nerdfighteria!) ...rather than just tearing down those who are...
