Black Bullet: The First Impressions

So...An insectoid infection, young girls cursed from birth by the very virus at the source of the aforementioned insectoid infection, but they and their partners are the last hope for humanity’s survival... This is my first impressions of Black Bullet!

-------------------------------------

The first episode starts with a tent town in the ruins of a stadium... When suddenly this insect-like monster that I can best describe as a cross between a moth and a caterpillar starts attacking but it's shot down, lands among the tents and... (I think) ...kills our protagonist, Rentaro's parents.

Then a decade latter... Wow, pretty impressive that a thriving city can be built up in ten years. Anyway, Rentaro's now has a job that pretty much consists of killing these insectoid monsters... ("Gastrea" I believe they are called) ...with these bullets made of some sort of black metal... (I forget the exact name of the material) ...that is to Gastrea what silver is to werewolves. Yeah, those special bullets are the source of the series title. And also his partner... (Dang it, I can't remember her name) ...who's one of those young girls infected with the "Gastrea virus" from birth, AKA "Cursed Children".

The first, well... What I'm calling "Source Gastrea" for now. Is introduced, but we never really get to hear his/it's/whatever's name in the events of the actual episode, I'm going to refer to it as "Slender Mask" for now.

Oh, and  apparently most of the Gastrea are repelled from the city by surrounding the city with monoliths made of the aforementioned black metal. I would not be at all surprised if it turns out that was supposed to be a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

But there's a few things I'm curious about. Just what IS Rentaro and his teacher eating back at the lab? Is that supposed to indicate that in this world people eat Gastrea? But that strange injection that Rentaro gives his partner that night? Well, given what I know now, I'm mostly sure that's some sort of medicine intended to keep the Gastrea virus in check.

As for if I'm going to continue watching this series? ...Yeah, I found it entertaining enough. Well, let's see if humanity does, indeed, survive this onslaught...
