Makai Ouji the First Impressions

I know this was posted a week after it actually aired, but I needed to figure out what to do with the usual Rerun Day that's usually on Sundays. Since the all of the other days either A) Already have a theme day applied to them or B) They're already locked into place by a regularly updating series that isn't a rerun (to me), Rerun Day itself had to be put on hold.

Now with that out of the way, here we go, this is...Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist!

OMG! That scene in the cold opening (apparently of Dantalion and Solomon) has activated my shipping goggle! (oh, dear...)

As for our "hero", William Twining, is apparently an atheist (and therefore the "Realist" mentioned it the title). But his family hasn't paid for next years tuition...what? That doesn't make any sense? Isn't he supposed to be part of the upper-class? (in other words, filthy rich)

Oh, it seems that some bad investments were made and now the family's bankrupt. (Curse you Great Recession Economy!!!) And, of course, both of the parents are dead and said foolish uncle is nowhere to be found, and all of the servants have left save for that one butler... (Great, just, great.) of the Cecil family. The family name here reminds me of the given name of the young head of the Phantomhive family from Black Butler (which this show's kind of reminding me of, good times). Except the only thing demonic about this butler is his motives for staying with the family (invested quite a lot of dough into our hero's IQ).

Will hopes ('wills' himself to believe, LOL) that maybe there's a secret room somewhere (with a...SECRET DOOR!) with something inside he can sell so he can pay to attend school again. And, strangely enough...

...one is found in the basement, and Will plans on smashing the door open with a shoulder ram (actually it's a better idea to literally kick the door in than ram it with your shoulder)...and he succeeds (maybe he's stronger than I thought), but it injures him enough to bleed; accidentally activating a summoning circle on the floor... (oh-no!)

...that summons Dantalion (yes, that same "demon" from the cold opening) who implies that Will is actually Solomon reincarnated (interesting...) and therefore he's the one to choose who will rule Hell while Lucifer is in a deep-sleep...

And Will doesn't believe a word of it (even though he SAW the summoning ritual BEFORE HIS VERY EYES!) and gets Dantalion carted off by the police as a con artist, even calling the demon duke a "useless bum" and throwing a shoe at his face. That's one...'hell' of an atheist! (Stop it with the Black Butler references!)

"The young master is a hard-line realist with a love for modern science." Well that proves my earlier theory (Hurray!) But then Will gets abducted by (what's assumed to be) a demonic mist (dun, dun, duuuun!)...

...Into Hell itself! Which looks like a fancy hotel lobby (huh?) and Will's greeted by a black goat-headed humanoid demon butler (what did I say about the Black Butler references!?); and our hero mistakes it for a costume party under his own freaking basement and then assumes he's dreaming. *facepalm* His Occam's Razor must be dull from overuse by now. Then, a bit of exposition latter, a newbie demon, who's a servant of Duke Baalberith (Yo, what's up with that Shomonkai project of yours?), blows up Dantalion's house (which the aforementioned lobby turns out to be part of) and tries to abduct Will (again) before being rescued (sort of) by Dantalion; who conjures his house back into existence, only for that newbie demon to show up again by breaking a hole in the floor (is it a common greeting among demons to be a literal home wrecker?) not only to try to kidnap Will again, but for his original reason for showing up: killing Dantalion for a Klingon Promotion. The newbie demon and Dantalion's battle escalated enough to threaten Will ability to return home so he orders Dantalion to stop...

...and it works (that's been said a lot in this post), turns out that Solomon's power over the Goetia remained intact even after reincarnation.

So, after Will returns to school (turns out the current school year isn't quite over yet) it turns out someone else paid his tuition though a donation, now who could've done that? Oh and Dantalion disguises himself as a human to transfer into Will's school (figures).

So, that was the first episode of Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist. It turned out to be more of a comedy than I figured it would be, but I most definitely enjoyed watching it. Now excuse me while I go watch episode two!
