Visual Novelist: Hakuoki ~Memories of the Shinsengumi~ #7 - Tomatos in the Mirror with a Wham Moment.

Wow! There were quite a bit of searches for this game that lead to this blog! (Too bad that happened during the NaNoWriMo hiatus.) Oh well, at least because of that, this post is going to be the first of the December the first Mega Publish Event! (Let's get this Japanese game obsession on the way already!)

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #9 - |-|15 l1p5 4|-3 |\/|0\/1|\|9.

(Okay, can you explain that weird post title!?) It's in L337-5p34|<. (Or "Leet-speak" for those of you not fluent in that language.) And, yes, that detail's going to be relevant soon. As for the post title, that translates as "His lips are moving."

From the New World the First Impressions

I've heard interesting things about this series, mostly in the form of it being a crapsaccharine world, so let's see if any of what I heard even has a grain of truth to it...

The Severing Crime Edge the First Impressions

Hello! I'm just now publishing this post, even though I watched the first episode during the NaNoWriMo Hiatus, I've just kept this post in draft form 'till the beginning of December. Now, let's start this (belated) record of my..."first impressions" of this particular series...

Kuroko no Basket Season 2 the First Impressions

I've just seen the first episode of the latest season of Kuroko no Basket (Or "Kuroko's Basketball" if you're going by Crunchy Roll titles), and seeing Taiga Kagami trying to eat with his chopsticks in his left hand (as practice, of course) gave me an idea for me to do the same to hopefully improve on my typing skills. Except for me that would mean eating with my chopsticks in my right hand... yes, I'm left-handed. But past the jump break is what I thought about the first episode of the second season of this show...

NaNoWriMo Hiatus Notice.

Any and all sub-series will be put on hold for the entire month of November so that Shimohi can work on this years project for National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. See you at the beginning of December!

PPS Officer: Pokemon X Version #4 - A PR Stunt and a horde of Gulpin...O-Powers!

Hi, I'm back! (And so are us!) (Hajizuku! Stop spitting on me!) (Are you sure there's not just a rain cloud over your head...?) (Yeah... Shimohi's Squirtle is trolling his Pikachu...) (Did anyone ever mention how strange your Pokemon team is?) [sarcasm] No! Really? I didn't notice. [/sarcasm] Well, on to today's events... (Speaking of which, you still haven't done a PR Video yet...) ...Niyagi, do I really have to... (It sure seems like it, "mister"!) *sigh* Fine...

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #8 - Not enough sand.

And here's the first of the two trail phases of the Case "Turnabout Samurai"! (Just hope that Wendy Oldbag's ranting doesn't result in Shimohi passing out due to dizziness...again...) (We both know that's not going to happen.) Let's just step into the courtroom, shall we...

Genshiken Second Generation the First Impressions.

Okay, okay, I admit it... I didn't finish the first series yet! *ducks to avoid a myriad number of thrown objects* Well, with that out of the way, here's what I thought of the first episode of Genshiken Second Generation (after the jump break of course) ...

Visual Novelist: Hakuoki ~Memories of the Shinsengumi~ #6 - "Fury" of the Rakshasa.

Okay, here's the start of the second chapter! What will happen this time...? (For instance, will Shimohi Yukimura finally notice the tomato in the mirror?) ...Let's just get on with the game...

Overthinking Things: The Classic Series Past holding clues to the Revived Series Future?

Yo! It's been a while since I've typed one of these posts, I mean, this sub-series could've ended up being the title of this very blog and all. Still... On John Hurt's TV Tropes.org page it reads... (more of this after the jump break, after all it was spoiler marked on that page.)

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #12 - I'm feeling Deja Vu...

Hi everybody! Here's the second playthough of Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors! (Huh, what happened to the first one? I don't remember doing a first playthough...) *whispers to Akurei* Hey. I know you like to spoil some things, but please don't mention the ending any more. We don't want Niyagi to suddenly remember the Ax Ending and go ax crazy on us. I'd rather not have to use the Neuralyzer for the same memories twice... (*whispers to Shimohi* Fine, whatever...) (What are you two whispering about?) Nothing! (It's actually about Shimohi's new R-18 rated doujinshi...) (EW! Gross! Nobody needs to know about that! *runs off*) And... it looks like we're going to need to get more Brain Bleach...

(Note: During this and other re-plays, anything that was already said and done in previous playthoughs will not be recorded here, unless events in previous playthoughs result in Shimohi, the Pansy, or I having different reactions than before.) And of course, any puzzles done in previous playthoughs will not be included, if you want the answers for what to do in those, check the playthoughs in which they're first done. For the second playthough, this means we'll mostly be skipping the 3rd Class Cabin, the 2nd Class Cabin, the Kitchen, the Operating Room, the Chart Room, and the Captains Quarters.

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #7 - The lawyer charges more.

Well, now that the Turnabout Sisters arc is done, now it's time to start the next case: "Turnabout Samurai"! (So this won't be the only samurai-related thing we're Let's Playing...) It's not quite like that...

Saturday, October 19, 2013

PPS Officer: Pokemon X Version #3 - Water Blast from the Past...

All right, we're back to the Kalos region of the Pokemon World! (Welcome back! I missed you...) (Tsunebiki's really clingy!) Well, let's get on with it shall we?

Friday, October 18, 2013

Visual Novelist: Hakuoki ~Memories of the Shinsengumi~ #5 - The Battlefield of Honor!

(So...hurray! You've caught the attention of a guy that's NOT Hajime Saito!) Then again, I'm not sure if said guys will recover from that battle or not...

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #11 - Pay no attention to the dead man on the floor!

And now, the answer to the question of what's behind that door... (Something tells me I'm not going to like this...)

PPS Officer: Pokemon X Version #2 - Attack of the FoxAcid!

Alright, second day of my Pokemon Journey is a go! (Yeah! What sort of friends and opponents will I meet today?) (Only time will tell...) In other news... I'm getting the special Torchic today! (What's with the post title?) FoxAcid is pretty much a trojan program the NSA created to hack into users of both The Onion Router (TOR) and FireFox.

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #6 - You can't get a finger between the rope and his neck!

Welcome back everyone! Here's the second trial phase, and the last part of the Turnabout Sisters arc! (By the end of this, someone well be declared guilty!) But it won't be Phoenix or Maya, because... (With our guideance.) ...the truth...will come out!

PPS Officer: Pokemon X Version #1 - Firefox rules!

Hi everybody and welcome to the first post of my first LP of a Pokemon game! (Hurray!) Huh...Akurei, due to this being an E-rated game, you can't cuss in any way, shape, or form. Not even censored cussing. (What the...!? I mean, that's not fair!) Due to the rating, that's just has to be the way it is. So, let's get started...

Visual Novelist: Hakuoki ~Memories of the Shinsengumi~ #4 - Troubling Times Today...

Well, we're back! Let's see what today has in... *Looks down past the jump break* Holy **** did this game really time-skip from the middle of winter to the middle of the summer? (Sure looks like it.) (Just to remind anyone reading this, this is a blind LP. As in, we're not using a walkthrough in any way, shape, or form. So, any surprises on our part that isn't sourced from the anime adaptation is genuine.) Fine, on with the game...

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #10 - Sailing on the open sea.

Alright! We've picked the next door to go through... (Door 1 Mother****ers! **** it! I can't cuss YET!) Not 'till after the break. Hopefully this will be the last post for the first playthough. (*Looks down* Spoiler Alert! No, it isn't...)

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #9 - Tin-foil Hat time 4: "9" the Arc Number!

Well, we have officially learned that Snake is dead. (Or is he...) (Monster! That's not funny!) (Who said that was a joke.) (What's that supposed to mean!?) Oh look at this, this is the nineth post of the 'Nine' Hours 'Nine' Persons 'Nine' Doors Let's Play! Hurray! Now let's see what happens this time...

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #4 - Your Honor!

"Here we go! The first non-tutorial trial phase for this case! (It's a court room, so long as you two don't do anything stupid like play a card game in the middle of a trial, things should be quite boring...right?) (No, because...THIS! IS! ACE ATTORNEY!) And... Akurei just kicked Niyagi into a pit that suddenly appeared. Whatever, let's all just file into the stands...

Well, here's the first chapter...where finally we'll get to some decisions that could win the heart of a dude... (Yay!) (Aw man...) ...or get me and everyone else killed... (Yay!) (...you're horrible.) And these two live in my head.

(Also, you're kind of acting like an "inner protagonist" in this game.) Let's get on with the game already!

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic the First Impressions

Well, I'm about to watch the first episode of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Aladdin and Alibaba, and...let's see where this show takes us...

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #8 - The Squicking of the Pansy

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #3 - The other's a fish.

Hello and welcome back to Visual Novelist! Now we're going to start the second "Episode" of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, "Turnabout Sisters"! (And now we're going to meet Maya Fey!) (But under some very bad circumstances...) (What?) You'll see...

Visual Novelist: Hakuoki ~Memories of the Shinsengumi~ #1 - Reverse Trap in the Big City

Alright, we have another visual novel on our hands. It's not a death game this time... ("No, it's not.") It's not a courtroom mystery this time... ("No, it's not.") It's a historical otome game. ("You are correct.")

"At a time when shougunate and imperial forces clashed for supremacy over Japan, Chizuru travels to Kyoto in search of her missing father. She runs into the Shinsengumi, a band of samurai warriors sworn to protect the shogun. Chizuru soon learns that they, too, are looking for her father. What awaits them is more than just your typical missing person's case, as they face off against imperial soldiers and the supernatural! But in the midst of all this madness, will sweet and innocent Chizuru find love?" (Maybe if Shimohi here doesn't screw up.) Speaking of which, yes, you can rename Chizuru whatever you want. (So, for anyone else playing this game at home, don't be too surprised if characters in this game are referring to the protagonist as "Shimohi" rather than "Chizuru".) (Also, I apologise in advance for these two screw balls for any up tick in stupid Gintama or Rurouni Kenshin-based jokes.) And, one more thing, this is another M-rated game... (Yes! I can curse uncensored again!) ...so, we see the return of this warning below. Interesting that it has the same content descriptors... Okay, let's get this proverbial party started!

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #7 - Tin-foil Hat Time 3: The rule of Trilogy Creep

Welcome back! Soon we'll choose from a second set of numbered doors! (And by "we", Shimohi means "Shimohi, Niyagi, and I" you the viewers don't really have a say in this LP.) Well, most likely that'll be saved for the sequel. Well, on with the... (...Nonary...) ...game!

Visual Novelist: Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney #1 - A good start.

Hello Internet! And welcome to the first post of the Visual Novelist Let's Play for the first of the Gyakuten Saiban...oh right, English title...Ace Attorney games! Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney! (Why didn't you title it like that in the post title.) (The Internet is infected with enough cancer as it is, we don't have to add another example of colon cancer!) But we'll have to deal with it anyway once we get to the sequels. ([sarcasm] Oh boy...[/sarcasm])

Because I'm not sure about the language limits of a Teen Rated game, I'll just censor any curse words Akurei uses unless a canon character in the game uses it uncensored, then future uses of it will be uncensored.

With that out of the way...Let's Play...Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney! Episode 1: The First Turnabout...

Monday, September 9, 2013

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #5 - Tin-foil Hat Time 2: Escape from the kitchen!

Okay! We've gotten though the first room beyond the tutorials... (There was that one involving maps...) Shush, that was a fluke! (Right...) Anyway, we're past that room and now we're going through that Mars door, let's see where this crazy train's going...

Overthinking Things: God save the Doctor!

Yes, I saw a video (which for some reason I can't find now...) where in response to rumors of the possibility of a female incarnation of the Doctor, someone (maybe Steven Moffat) 'went on record' to say that, "The Queen of England should be played by a man."...

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #3 - More exposition and jokes.

We're back and Akurei still hasn't thrown out that disgusting chunky salsa dip... (Believe us, if we told you how that came to be, you'll wish we had not.) ...or eaten it all. Seriously, that stuff is awful! (More like awesomely bad***! *crunch*) *gags* (Ew, gross! Was that a bone!?)

Well, let's get going and pray no one else will become nacho dip...

The End of Oreimo

Well, I'm just about to watch the last episode of "Ore No Imouto Ga Konna Ni Kawaii Wake Ga Nai!" or translated into English, "There's No Way My Little Sister Can Be This Cute!" but that's absurdly long, so I refer to it as "Oreimo"...along with (I assume) a good portion of its viewers. Also, technically, this is the last episode of the second season...and the last episode of the first season had text in it that referred to it as a "good end", so I'm worried the last episode of this season will be a "bad end"...

...Well, time to bit the bullet...

Pollnalysis: A Ship of Rin and Haruka from Free! Iwatobi Swim Club, is this a thing (you support)?

Here's the results of the first poll on According to an Otaku...

Yeah! I'm boarding that ship!
  3 (75%)

No! Sink that ship!
  1 (25%)

Meh, I don't care either way.
  0 (0%)
No way! Shipping is a sin against God!
  0 (0%)
What is this "Shipping" anyway?
  0 (0%)

So, three out of the four votes I got were in favor while one was against and none of the other results got any votes. It was only after the poll opened that I realized that there was one potential response missing, "Meh, I don't even watch that show." Although I thought that "Meh, I don't care either way" would cover it.

TL;DR: The result is either mostly support for Foe Yay or I hardly get any readers, if not both.

The End of Maoyu

OK, this is it, a war started between two human cultures while humanity is fighting a war against demon (who turn out to be from another world INSIDE their own) and the Hero apparently has to fight the Demon Lord (who got possessed by, at least one of, the spirit of previous demon lords). 'Till that point, she (yes, I said "she") was a more intelligent (and genre savvy) ruler who (strangely enough) seeks to not 'rule' the world but rather 'save' the world...with the Hero's help of course.

And, no, it's not that I'm not bothering to remember their names. The characters in this series are seriously referred to by their titles rather than names, even when they technically have more than one. The Demon Lord and the Crimson Scholar are actually the same person (even though there is a point where the elder of the Maid Sisters poses as the Crimson Scholar), same thing with the Hero and the Black Knight.

Let's do our best to see the other side of that hill..
Warning!: This post contains spoilers if you haven't seen the entire series yet.

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #2 - Loads of exposition and dead baby comedy.

Last time on 999, Junpei escaped from a flooding cabin room on a... (presumably) ...sinking cruise liner, put there by some dude... (or dudette...) to play the most dangerous game, The Nonary Game. And now where we left off...

Overthinking Things: 999, Digital Roots, and Numerology.

Even when I was playing Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors before I started the Visual Novelist LP arc about it, I noticed how finding the digital root of a set of numbers was similar to, if not exactly like, the use of numbers in the study of numerology.

Warning!: This post contains spoilers for the plot of Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors.

Visual Novelist: 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors #1 - Super Drowning Skills

OK, this is a new thing for me; the First Impressions post for Shin Megami Tensei IV ended up like an LP sort-of by accident, this time I'm doing that on purpose. And, yes, I do realize that this game came out several years ago. Still the only endings I've managed to see are the Ax and Submarine endings... (**** you really suck at this game.) And there's only one save file, so for a clean play through, I had to delete my previous data. Also, due to the nature of this game, yes I will include repeat playthoughs, but only include anything that's different from any of the previous ones. I Don't want to repeat myself more than necessary here.

So, now that that's out of the way, let's play...Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors! (Or "999" for short.)

Overthinking Things: Painfull Memories - Natsume Yuujincho vs Watamote

As I might've implied in a previous post, I (Like most people nowadays) have some very bad, and yes painful, memories of my middle and high school days. I've only watched the first three episodes of Watamote and I've been reminded of said painful days (as I've typed in the aforementioned post, especially during the first episode of my middle school days). And, although not for the same reasons (obviously), I can sort of understand how Takashi Natsume felt when he remembers his own painful memories of being rejected by his classmates. But still...

The Rose of Versailles the First Impressions

Yes, I know this is an older series. As a matter of fact one of the codifiers of Shoujo manga tropes, another one is Princess Knight...which I should try to find a way to watch it soon. (Man, you're getting a bit obsessive about the works of Osamu Tezuka.) But, still, let's see what kind of a...first impression I'll get from this old series that's new to me...

Random Rambling Rants: Who the frak reads this!?

Like I typed in the title, who the frak reads this blog!? If they're even reading it in the first place...(maybe that'll be a good topic for the next poll) ...I mean, I grew up when liking anime, manga, and Japanese video games can (and most likely will) result in you getting ridiculed/picked on at school (assuming that the world isn't still like this today); so I ask with all seriousness...

"Who would want to read this!? If the list of the highest recurrently referring URLs is any indication, then apparently most of my readers are wannabe 'awesome' pick-up artists...really, (if people actually read this silly blog of mine) that's my 'fan base'. And, if anyone actually checks these things, I really did link to the TV Tropes.org page for "Straw Misogynist" from the term "pick-up artists". You know why? It's because (if you readers are really like that) YOU SUCK DONKEY BALLS! You're the scum of the Earth and the reason I don't want to live on this planet anymore! You treat women like they're capture targets from a romance game, In the worst kind of way, (That link is mostly there for the quote on that page) WOMEN DO NOT WORK LIKE THAT! GOOD NIGHT!

(I'm betting over nine thousand Internets that if there's any comments on this post, all of them are going to be from flame-baiting trolls.)

Update: Did a bit of research, and it turns out that said site that lead to this post was actually an example of refer spam. I was right, no one really reads my blog... *aura of despair*

RWBY the First Impressions

Yes, I know I'm posting this a week late (gremlins got to my wireless router). And, yes, I'm counting Rooster Teeth's RWBY as an anime. I more see it as an art style than anything that can only be made in a specific country. So, yes, I also consider shows like Avatar (both The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra) and Code Lyoko to count as anime.

I've seen the Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers; now let's see what kind of show all of those were leading up too...

Overthinking Things: Animal Crossing - It involves more work than one thinks...

While watching the latest video from PBS Idea Channel (No, seriously, check it out! It brings up very interesting topics.) about if BMO from Adventure Time is an expression of third-wave feminism, during the comment response section from the latest Animal Crossing game and 'Otaku Citizenship'; someone, called rainbowdew, commented that "I think part of the charm of animal crossing is that it's not real, and everything is a lot simpler and that there is no real 'work' everything is fun and fictional. I don't think it translates to the real world."...

Shin Megami Tensei IV the First Impressions

Warning! Parts of this post will contain crude language, this post is about an M rated game after all.

OK, this is it! I'd not only pre-ordered this game, but I paid for it 100% before it came out; and now it has! Let's see what this latest entry in the mainline Shin Megami Tensei franchise has in store for me...

And, yes, I've played some kind of MegaTen game (even if unofficial) before. Although there isn't a First Impressions  post for this anime, believe me; I greatly anticipated the premiere of the first episode of Devil Survivor 2: The Animation for a reason. And I've also played most of the Persona games along with the first Devil Survivor game and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.

(Note: This is turning out like an After Action Report.)

Makai Ouji the First Impressions

I know this was posted a week after it actually aired, but I needed to figure out what to do with the usual Rerun Day that's usually on Sundays. Since the all of the other days either A) Already have a theme day applied to them or B) They're already locked into place by a regularly updating series that isn't a rerun (to me), Rerun Day itself had to be put on hold.

Now with that out of the way, here we go, this is...Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist!

This Week in Animal Crossing New Leaf 7/7-7/13

Had to deal with trolls, and dealt with them by avoiding the online islands, but no more! I won't lose to the trolls...this week! I hope...

...and I just end up avoiding the online islands again. *Sigh*

Silver Spoon the First Impressions

Sorry for the delay in posting this but I did actually see the first episode not only the day it came out but the minute it was uploaded, only had a bit a hiccup when the video player failed and I had to reload it.

Well I'm familiar with another one of Hiromu Arakawa's work, FullMetal Alchemist, and I had a somewhat similar story idea (except my idea involves a teenage girl from the suburbs helping her aunt living in the country raise sheep) let's see how this turns out...

Watamote the First Impressions

It's another portmanteau series nickname based upon the original Japanese title that is quite a mouthful, "Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui!"...heck, even the English Translation of that is equally a mouthful, "No Matter How I Look At It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!"...

Oh really? So the fact that avoid talking to your classmates because they're all shallow idiots has absolutely nothing to do with it? Or how about the fact that you're taking appeal lessons from the Internet? Dude, duck face is absolutely not attractive! And that's not even getting into how attaining popularity, especially in High School, is a flawed goal to begin with. Still...

The World God Only Knows: Goddesses the First Impressions

First of all, before I get any messages about me not doing a First Impressions post for the previous two seasons of Kaminomi (portmanteau series nickname based upon the original Japanese title for the series "Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai") that's because I not only watched the first episodes of both seasons long before this blog existed, but by the time the blog started existing, I've already seen the last episodes. Hence why there isn't a The End of post for those two seasons either.

Now that the flame retardant has been applied, let's dive into the first episode of Kaminomi Season 3...

Overthinking Things: Natsume Yuujinchou, a partial fanon confirmation (plus a tangent on Homestuck troll shipping).

Friday I finally got my hands on a copy of Volume 14 of Natsume's Book of Friends. And while, yes the first chapter involved about exactly what I thought it did (Takashi literally losing his voice) a bit from one of the other chapters inside was a surprise...and not in the bad way.

This Week in Animal Crossing New Leaf 6/30-7/6

Welcome to the first post of This Week in Animal Crossing New Leaf!

My character is (of course) named Shimohi and I'm the Mayor of a town named Tasogare (Dream Address: 4200-2141-4295). The villagers (not counting Niyagi and Akurei) are...
Frank the Cranky Eagle, Kiki the Normal Cat, Leonardo the Jock Leopard, Bangle the Peppy Tiger, Buck the Jock Horse, Kyle the Smug...Coyote(?), Charlise the Big Sis Bear, Gloria the Snooty Duck, and Beau the Lazy Deer.
Tasogare has a Dream Suite (of course!), a night club, a real estate office, a post office, a garden supply shop, a shoe and sock store, a salon, a museum, a thrift shop, a police station, a campground, the Able Sisters run a clothing and accessory shop of the same name, and the Nook brothers run the supermarket "Super T&T".

So let's jump into This Week in Animal Crossing New Leaf! (get it, the original Japanese title of this game can directly translate to "Jump Out Animal Forest")

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club the First Impressions

Let's see, first thing, the reasons behind why this series is called what is it...

The "Iwatobi Swim Club" part is obvious, it focuses on the (implied soon to be) Swimming Club of Iwatobi High School, although the cold opening for the first episode showed back when they were still kids (seriously; it took a bit for me to figure that out, but at least I figured that out before the opening theme started). As for the "Free!" bit; apparently that's because our protagonist, Haruka Nanase, for some as of yet unknown reason will (or is it 'can') only swim free...style.

Overthinking Things: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Natsume's Book of Friends.

While, there's a lot I can say about what's different between them...

One's a show about a socially-awkward protagonist who learns how to interact with others and there's strange creatures and magic involved; and in the other, most of the cast are brightly-colored equines.

Yes, I just did a bait-and-switch comparison, but in this case that's not intended to be an insult. I'm a huge fan of both shows, and maybe that's why I can see this similarity between these otherwise different shows from different cultures. And yes, I know Natsume Yuujinchou is available in the States officially in subtitled form while My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is officially available in Japan in dubbed form (under the title "My Little Pony: Tomodachi wa Mahou" no less).

Fan Fiction Spotlight: The Human Mask

"The Human Mask" a Natsume Yuujinchou fan fiction described by author harunekonya as, "An inter-connected vignette series." it's the continuation/sequel to a one-shot called "Worthy of a Name", which can be summed up as "Misuzu tricks Takashi Natsume into becoming someone worthy of holding onto his name, a yokai god."

But Takashi, in either fics, is most certainly NOT a God-Mode Sue. In fact, the reason I'm putting the proverbial spot light on this fic in particular is because aside from the fact that the synopsis becomes "Yokai god and former human learns to both control his new found powers and learn the social rules of the yokai world while keeping up appearances of still being human among humans", the eponymous 'Human Mask' (even though oddly enough he ends up wearing an actual mask...in yokai form), it still feels like something that could come out of the original series itself. To say nothing of (at the time of posting) the (by now fixed) debacle about the first one or two versions of chapter 60. As harunekonya learns the hard way that, and I quote from the authors notes of chapter 61, "never, ever, EVER attempt to write when you're jetlagged [sic]. It is a bad idea."

In other words, it's (maybe) an Elseworld fic that manages to also include the Original Flavour (yes, I know that's British spelling) like the original series, there's no cannon ships anywhere. Even then, I already mentioned the reason why I'm not going to mention any Natsume Yuujinchou fan fic that does include shipping (If you know what I mean, wink-wink, nudge-nudge, say no more, say no more!).

Point is, if you like Natsume Yuujinchou itself, I highly recommend this fan fiction.

Overthinking Things: The Nature of Alcor, both in Devil Survivor 2 and in Meatspace.

Ah, The Anguished One, (as mentioned on TV Tropes) expy of not only Lucifer, Prometheus, and Naoya (from the first Devil Survivor game) but also of Kaworu from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Let's see here...White-haired pretty boy? Check. Oddly interested in the protagonist? Check. Actually an Eldritch Abomination in a Form We are Comfortable with? Check. Dies so that humanity can survive (In the anime and most of the endings in the game for The Anguished One)? Yeah...

The End of Hayate no Gotoku: Cuties

Today I've seen the twelfth and final episode of Hayate no Gotoku: Cuties, most of the episodes are episodic (of course!) that focuses on a different member of the series "harem" as the heroine for the episode...

WARNING: FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE ENTIRE SERIES YET SPOILER ALERT!

The End of Devil Survivor 2: The Animation

Yesterday I watched the twelfth, and final, episode of the animated adaptation of the Shin Megami Tensei spin-off video game "Devil Survivor 2" (which, at the time of this posting, I've still haven't beaten yet)...

WARNING: FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THE ENTIRE SERIES YET SPOILER ALERT!

Welcome Everybody...(descriptions for the sub-series of this blog)

...who'll actually read this. Hello, I'm Shimohi (at least that's what I call myself in most video games). As mentioned in the description I have some sub-series in this blog and It'll take up too much of the character limit to describe what these sub-series are all about so, hence the existence of this post. Now, without further ado, here we go...

  • Overthinking Things: This is the blogs alternate name, this is mostly my own attempts at providing tangential learning opportunities by typing about a connection between an anime/manga series, video game, or TV show (like some low, if any, rent version of the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series of Non-Fiction books).
  • The End of (Title of TV Series or Game here): This is my reactions to the end of a series I've been watching and reflections on the series as a whole. Because I'm easy to entertain, but hard to impress, I don't think I can really call these type of posts 'reviews'. But if the Internet thinks it counts as a review, whatever. And, yes, the title of this sub-series is a Snowclone of the title of the move "The End of Evangelion".
  • (Title of TV Series or Game) the First Impressions: This, in contrast to "The End of..." is my reactions to the first episode of a TV show (anime, live-action, or western animation) or the events of a game from start 'till the first time you can save (or just after the forced tutorial, whichever comes last), still keep in mind what I said about my ability to review in the above description for "The End of".
  • Fan Fiction Spotlight: It is said that 90% of everything (including fan fiction) is crap. This sub-series is all about calling attention to the remaining 10% that makes the search worth it (at least in my opinion). Well...there is a type of fan fiction I read that will never, ever, ever, ever show up in this sub-series: Lemons. Just as it's said on  the That Guy With The Glasses show, What the F*** is Wrong With You?, "Nobody wants to see your d***", nobody wants to know what kind of amateur porn I read.
  • Random Rambling Rants: Exactly what it says on the tin, besides, I love alliteration! Post title format is "(beginning subject) to (ending subject)".
  • This Week in (Title of video game here): Some video games don't have a concrete ending...like most MMOs or games like the Animal Crossing ("Dobutsu no Mori" in Japanese) series. So this is...an actual record of the stuff that happens in that game.
  • Pollnalysis: After the poll on this very blog is done gathering votes, I look at the results and this sub-series of posts are the result of said analysis.
  • Visual Novelist: Text-based Let's Play sub-series about various visual novels, and it's not just Romance games either.
  • PPS Officer: Short for "Pokemon Protective Services" (something I made up for a game of Pokemon Tabletop Adventures I'd like to run someday). A Let's Play sub-series all about the various games of the Pokemon Franchise.
  • MegaTen Demonologist: A Let's Play sub-series all about games from the Shin Megami Tensei series and it's spin-offs.
  • Final Fantasist: A Let's Play sub-series focusing on the single-player Final Fantasy games (this means I'm NOT including the MMORPGs in the series).
  • Role-Playing Gamer: A Let's Play sub-series that covers pretty much everything that doesn't fall under the influence of the other series.
I will add more here as more sub-series crop up.
