The World God Only Knows: Goddesses the First Impressions

First of all, before I get any messages about me not doing a First Impressions post for the previous two seasons of Kaminomi (portmanteau series nickname based upon the original Japanese title for the series "Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai") that's because I not only watched the first episodes of both seasons long before this blog existed, but by the time the blog started existing, I've already seen the last episodes. Hence why there isn't a The End of post for those two seasons either.

Now that the flame retardant has been applied, let's dive into the first episode of Kaminomi Season 3...

OK, I get the implication that they were going to do this when I first heard what season 3 was going to be called, but I'm still peeved that they breezed through with just a summary of all the conquests between the student teacher and the introduction of the plot point of the goddesses...

IN THE FREAKING COLD OPENING NO LESS!!! I mean, I thought I'd be cool to not just see the conquest of Tsukiyo, not only animated, but in a format I can understand without resorting to scanlations; at the time of posting, as far as I know, there is no official English language version of Kaminomi the manga series. 'Cause, although they do it in different ways both Keima and Tsukiyo (to paraphrase a quote from the show "Mythbusters") 'reject our reality and substitute their own'.

But enough of my gripping about almost an entire seasons worth of lost stories, this post is about what 'did' happen. We're introduced to this girl with braids in a loop (sorry, I can't remember her name) who's the Goddess Diana's host, who now wants Keima to marry her human host to restore her power. OK, I get it that what with goddesses being the opposite of the "loose souls" they are powered by negative emotions while the goddesses are powered by love, still the whole 'marriage' thing feels a bit shoehorned. Why won't significant others (like a boyfriend/girlfriend) work?

As mentioned by Diana, any previous conquest of Keima's who still remember what happened afterwords will likely be host to a goddess, and guess what? Kanon, the idol, remembers! She's the host of Apollo (the daughter of the Greek God of the same name, strange...) And that's not all, she's also being stalked by a mysterious individual wearing a hooded black cloak (mysterious stalkers tend to wear hooded black cloaks don't ya know) who even follows her to the site of an important test at Majima Academy, where Kanon ends up confessing her love for Keima.

"OMG!"...is what everyone else at the school must be thinking 'cause, while Keima has a reputation on the Internet of being a master of dating sims, the only reputation Keima has at school is just that of an antisocial geek/nerd/otaku who wears glasses.

And it's official folks, Keima's a harem hero with an unwanted harem. For those of you who don't know, Keima has a 2D complex (meaning he's only attracted to fictional characters, in universe). The only reason he's using his skills to romance 'real' (in universe) girls is, because of a demonic contract, if he doesn't he'll lose his head...literally! And so will his demonic partner, who's more like a very clumsy, cute, human girl with an illogical obsession for fire trucks.

But the plot thickens when Apollo possesses Kanon and runs outside of the school; only to confront the aforementioned stalker, who is implied to be either an ancient demon or a modern one who seeks the return of the old ways, who then stabs the Apollo-possessed Kanon.

Oh no! Kanon better survive this, not just for the sake of the plot but also, for the sake of all her fans!

And while Keima's pretty much a reluctant/justified pick-up artist, and that in of itself is pretty problematic, (even with all the glossed over material) it still looks to be an entertaining 12 or 13 weeks ahead of me.
